As you all know (and if you don’t, you’re probably from Venezuela), gas prices have gone through the roof lately. So partly as a means of combatting that fact, and partly as a means of getting a good cardio workout, I’ve switched from Chevy V6 power to good ol’ leg power for my daily commute. Yep, you guessed it, I’m riding my mountain bike to work this summer. Initially I experimented with a few routes to find out how quick, easy, and safe (think early morning rush traffic…) they were, and I quickly settled on going through St. Jacobs down into Waterloo. It’s about 14 km each way, and I’ll be honest, at first I was a little daunted by the thought of biking that far twice a day. But the ride has turned out to be very enjoyable. In fact, my bike and I have really bonded over the last 6 weeks…I’m thinking of giving it a name. Of course there’s not much I can do about winds, hills, or rain, but hey that’s what I signed up for right? Anyway I find I really enjoy getting close to nature this way. One consequence of biking an hour each day is that my appetite has gone up noticeably. Haha…I may not be supporting the oil giants anymore, but I’m sure supporting the farmers now.
